Doosan DX225LC-7X

Doosan has introduced the DX225LC-7X "smart" excavator to United States customers. The DX225LC-7X is a fully electro-hydraulic controlled system that includes a 2D and upgradable 3D grading system. Doosan plans to replace the 5 series models.

Doosan says the 7 series has higher digging forces and lifting capacities along with better fuel efficiency while the diesel engines will continue to meet Tier 4 Final emissions standards without diesel particulate filters. Doosan says the larger models will come with D-ECOPower for saving fuel.

Models available now include the DX140LCR-7, DX225LC-7, DX255LC-7 and the DX350LC-7 all of which feature reduced tail swing.

New technology, which is what the machine is really all about, includes a programmable joystick, machine sensors on the boom, arm, bucket and upper body, and what's called a laser catcher that helps the operator be more precise with machine operation.

The joystick and pedals are all fully electronic which is vastly different from conventional machines that use pilot hoses to send signals for specific functions. For now, the DX225LC-7X which is Doosan's top sellers, is the only 7 series model to have this option.

A benefit of the new technology is that lower skilled operators will be able to use these machines.  In a time when it's hard to fill positions with skilled operators, this proves to be a major bonus.

Doosan integrates Topcon, Trimble or Leica or whatever system the customer works with.

When the operator activates the grading system, they can also activate assist mode.  This makes the machine virtually do the work itself, needing only the operators to move the joystick.

Also, if the job site is using a laser to maintain depth, the machine has a laser receiver, so the operator doesn’t have to reset the depth every time the machine is moved.

Operators can also program into the smart technology an obstacle wall.  Much like a VR headset, this wall will keep the machine from operating past certain points of risk.  Of course, there is also the ability to override that system if needed.

Doosan 7 series machines also have a weigh and lift assist function to measure and display the current weight of the bucket to warn the operator when it's too heavy.

The two-way flow is for using high-flow attachments to channel the power to the attachment rather than the boom and arm.

Doosan says there is a standard mode for trench digging or pipe laying.

On each of the Doosan-7 series, there is an optional 360-degree camera system. The camera pairs with sensors, providing a bird’s eye view of the jobsite and a beeping alarm if the machine gets too close to an obstacle.

Doosan also added a new fine-swing mode where the operator can turn off the rotation brake to prevent material loss from the bucket. Fine swing, which can be engaged or disengaged manually, gives operators more control.
