bz4x recall

Well, this is a little embarrassing.

Toyota issued recalls for its first mainstream electric car.

Why?

The wheels could fall off.

Toyota says the reason is nuts and bolts could loosen.

The model, in case you own one, is the BZ4X. Chances are very good you do not own one as Toyota has only delivered 250 of them so far.

But, if you're one of the unlucky saps or sapettes to own a BZ4X, Toyota says you should stop driving immediately.

The company says the bolts loosen after just a few short miles. They're not sure why yet. Seems as if they could have figured that out in vehicle tests leading up to the release.

Owners will have their Toyota EVs picked up and taken back to the dealer and will be given a loaner in the meantime.

The BZ4X is Toyota's first fully battery-powered electric vehicle that is not a modified version of a gasoline-powered model. Toyota had previously offered an electric version of the Rav4 SUV in some markets.

Toyota separately announced a recall for approximately 46,000 2022 Toyota Tundra full-size pickups because nuts and bolts were also coming loose, causing axles to disconnect. In the case of the trucks, Toyota will fix the problem at the shop and get the owners back on the road with their Tundras.
