Record gas prices
The price of gas is causing problems across the country, especially in the construction industry. The cost of a gallon of gas has soared past $7 in some areas of the country. The average cost of gasoline is reaching recession of 2008 levels. This is especially hard on trucking companies. As the price for fuel continues to rise, trucking companies will need to charge more to delivery goods. The increase will be passed onto the consumer, who will have no choice but to use less. Municipalities are being forced to put construction projects on hold, leaving infrastructure in desperate need of repair, unfinished or not started. The effects are being felt abroad as well where steelmakers across Europe are cutting back their operations as power prices surge to record levels in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
