A CAT Excavator Bucket Cylinder, H Link, Side Links, Bucket, and Stick

What's that rattling...?

Have you been digging on the jobsite, and hearing nothing but rattling? It could be your bucket linkage on your excavator needing replacement. A common question you might have is “What’s the difference between all these different links - H Links, Bucket Links, Side Links and Tipping Links?”

H-Links

Also known as bucket links or h-brackets due to their shape, these guys are the main connection of the lower boom cylinder and the bucket or quick coupler. They are responsible for moving the bucket/ attachment when the bucket cylinder extends or contracts.

Side Links

Also known as tipping links, or banana links due to their shape, these links are pivot arms responsible for moving the digging bucket. They are found on either side of the stick and are attached to both the lower bucket cylinder and the bottom of the stick as a connection point. Without these links, the bucket cylinder would not be able to provide the power needed to move the bucket in and out effectively.
