A Look at Different Types of Loader Buckets

Virtually any construction site will have a machine equipped with a loader bucket. From wheel loaders to backhoes, even some excavators, loader buckets are essential when it comes to moving material.

Buckets with grips and prongs are called rake buckets. These are mostly used to flatten dirt or put material into place. While standard buckets get dirty, rake buckets remain relatively clear of debris. Rake buckets can also til ground, and can be used as a claw to grab objects and move them. They also can strain away soft material from what is being scooped up.

For moving large amounts of light material, you have light material buckets. Duh. Material might include some light weight building material like insulation, excess foam, or perhaps even water. The reduced weight of the bucket limits strain on the machine.

General purpose buckets are used for loading and unloading. It's the most common bucket used by contractors. These buckets are usually found on wheel loaders and backhoes.

Four-in-one Buckets are perfect for transporting, loading, unloading, and pushing material around including objects like tree limbs, large stones, and other cumbersome objects. You often find four-in-one buckets on skid steers and compact track loaders.
