Housing Prices Making Modular Homes More Popular

Modular homes are popping up across America, with many lauding the forward-thinking innovation. The homes eliminate bidding wars, making them easier to buy at lower costs.

Modular homes are manufactured in a factory but differ from other dwellings that are prefabricated like trailers or doublewides.

A modular home is built in a factory leaving some of the work to be completed at the new owner's property. The home arrives at the building site in parts and then is assembled. Once completed, the home resembles other homes in the neighborhood.

Those in the industry say modular homes are built the same as onsite constructed homes but that they are stronger based on the fact they have to endure a rigorous delivery from the factory to the home's site.

A modular home takes about two months to build in a factory, cutting down the build time significantly in large part because the foundation can be completed at the same time the home is being built at the factory.

With the housing market so competitive now, many Americans are turning to modular homes to save money costing about a third less than a conventional home. The build time of a modular home is about half that of a home built on site. Industry analysts say modular home construction has grown more than 30% since 2015.

With an ongoing labor and material shortage in the construction sector, it's expected the modular home industry will continue to grow.
