Elon Musk's Shrinking Vegas Dig

According to the Las Vegas Convention Visitors Authority, The Boring Company (TBC) owned by Elon Musk has submitted necessary paper work to begin expanding underground tunnels beneath the Las Vegas strip.

The Vegas Loop project is in part designed to move people to-and-from America's biggest trade show, the CES. It is expected to also shuttle people to the newly finished Allegiant Stadium using electric Tesla "sleds".

The plan was to move more than 4,000 people an hour in the underground system during the convention, but now it looks as if that won't be the case.

Fire regulations will keep the total number of riders at one of the Loop’s three stations at just about 800 passengers per hour. In total, about 1,500 riders will be shuttled per hour, less than half of initial estimates.

If TBC misses its performance target by that much, the company will not receive more than $13 million and will face penalty charges in the millions.

Musk secured the contract with a bid that was millions of dollars below the competition.
