Expansive Salvage Yard Operation
“We own four separate properties and co-own one. All together, we have probably close to 70 to 80 acres across those properties,” Prater said. This expansive operation allows Drews Parts to accommodate a significant inventory of heavy equipment, making it a crucial resource for businesses needing replacement parts.
Drews Parts processes around 100 machines each year, dismantling them to supply valuable parts to customers. “Our main business is used parts because that’s quick and easy. You pull it off the machine, check it, and it ships,” Prater explained. He emphasized the urgency of the industry, stating, “Most everybody in this business, ‘time is money.’” This urgency drives their operations as they strive to meet the demand for essential components.
“In this business, time is money.”
Prioritizing Quality and Customer Satisfaction
When asked about their approach to customer satisfaction, Prater noted the importance of a thorough inspection process. “What we’re working toward is getting parts off before they get ordered,” he said.
The company aims to implement a three-step checking process before shipping parts. “They should be checked by the guy who pulls them off, the second person should be the guy who’s inventorying it, and the third person should be our shipping, receiving, as they are shipping it,” he explained. This meticulous process ensures that customers receive reliable components that meet their needs.
Drews Parts credits much of its growth to its partnership with ConEquip. “ConEquip...that’s an honest answer. If it wasn’t for vendors like you guys, we wouldn’t be moving as much parts,” Prater said. The company has experienced rapid growth in the last decade, largely due to high volume vendors and the increasing number of machines they bring in.
“If it wasn’t for vendors like you guys, we wouldn’t be moving as much parts.”
To differentiate themselves from other salvage yards, Drews Parts offers a wide variety of brands. “We try to do all brands instead of just Caterpillar, or strictly Komatsu or CASE. We supply all of them,” Prater explained. This inclusive approach enables them to serve a broader customer base and meet diverse needs in the heavy equipment sector.

Stocking High-demand Parts
According Prater, the three most sought-after parts are crucial for maintaining machine functionality. “In this business, it’s final drives, to keep the machine moving, diesel engines of course, and really hydraulic cylinders are your top three,” Prater explained.
Drews Parts focuses on stocking these high-demand items to cater to the needs of their clientele effectively. Their emphasis on having a robust inventory of these components ensures that operators can minimize downtime and keep their projects on track. By prioritizing the availability of these sought-after parts, Drews Parts demonstrates its commitment to providing exceptional service and reliability in the heavy equipment salvage industry.
Inventory and Future Plans
With plans to enhance their inventory accuracy, Drews Parts is committed to achieving near 100 percent inventory reliability. “Our plans are to get our inventory as close to 100 percent as possible, and that’s just going to help with everything we do,” said Connor Drews, a sales associate at Drews Parts. Currently, the company boasts an impressive inventory of 1,275 machines, positioning them as a significant player in the heavy equipment market.
As Drews Parts continues to grow and adapt to industry demands, their commitment to quality service and customer satisfaction remains unwavering. This dedication ensures that they will continue to be a trusted partner for heavy equipment parts in the future.
