The 580EV maintains the same loading and digging capabilities as the CASE 580SN diesel model, delivering the same breakout forces and performance, all while operating emission-free. This new machine builds on the original electric concept, Project Zeus, which CASE debuted at CONEXPO 2020. The updated 580EV is based on CASE’s most popular backhoe model, the 580 Super N, ensuring it meets the high demand and expectations of customers.
Why Choose the 580EV?
One of the key reasons CASE chose the 580 Super N as the basis for its electric backhoe is to keep the weight manageable. “We didn’t step it up all the way to our 590 series because we also wanted to keep the weight within a reasonable amount for a backhoe,” explains George MacIntyre, product manager for backhoe loaders. Reducing the overall weight helps improve energy efficiency, an important consideration for electric vehicles.
Enhanced Features and Performance
The 580EV is powered by a 400-volt, 71-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, providing up to eight hours of operational time on a single charge, depending on the application. The backhoe is charged using a standard Level 2 J1772 adapter, similar to those used for electric cars. The battery is equipped with an advanced thermal management system, featuring cooling circuits to regulate temperature and maintain performance in both hot and cold conditions.
Designed for optimal energy efficiency, the 580EV features two independent electric motors—one for the PowerDrive transmission and the other for hydraulic pumps, which power the loader, backhoe, and steering systems. This dual-motor setup minimizes energy consumption while maximizing responsiveness in loading and digging applications. Instant torque and peak torque at any RPM are possible, meaning operators don’t have to wait for the engine to reach optimal performance levels
Additional features include a 14-foot backhoe with an Extendahoe, ProControl swing dampening for enhanced precision, PowerLift/PowerBoost capabilities, and electro-hydraulic controls. These features provide operators with improved accuracy and power when handling tough jobs.
Operator-Friendly Design
The 580EV’s cab is built for comfort and efficiency, featuring energy-efficient heating and air conditioning, an 8-inch touchscreen display, customizable work modes, push-button start, and operator security codes for added safety. The machine is also equipped with multicolored, four-corner strobe lights that can be adjusted for color and strobe patterns, making it ideal for low-light conditions.
