Installing a Heui Pump on a C7 or C9 CAT Engine
14 Simple Steps for a Fast and Proper Installation
Here are 14 steps to follow to take out and install a new heui pump on a Caterpillar C7 or C9 engine.
- Remove the two 10 millimeter bolts with 16 millimeter heads hold the heui pump onto the engine.
- Remove the oil supply line to the pump.
- Remove the fuel filter housing.
- If the coolant line runs over the compressor you’ll have to remove that.
- Remove the electrical connector.
- Remove the high pressure supply line to the head. Remove two fuel supply lines that run off the back of the transfer pump. You will need a special tappet wrench for this fitting. Part number is 192-5092.
- Disconnect the oil line from the seal plate. Keep the fitting loose it makes it easer to pull the pump.
- Be careful with the oil supply line because it bolts behind the air compressor and could crack when removing the pump.
- Inspect the engine oil pressure line to make sure it’s not compromised.
- Put the old pump in a vice and remove all the old fittings to be reused. Drain the oil and remove the head. Inspect the solenoid for any metal debris.
- Get new pump ready. Swap all the fittings and reseal them. Keep the quick connect fitting loose to help with the reinstall.
- Slide the new heui pump in and connect the quick connect line. Getting the pump in can be difficult unless you don’t have an air compressor. Replace the oil supply line into the fitting.
- Get the gears to mesh with the gears in the front. These are not timed so you don’t have to worry about calibrating.
Torque the bolts to 40 foot pounds. Reinstall the filter housing and all lines you took off.
- Once installed, check the oil after starting it and you’ll probably have to add about a quart to get it to the full mark. Start it up and check for leaks.
